Tell us about the early design brief
The brief was to address the stadium with colour incorporating the 2012 brand colours. Different coloured canvas banners run from top to bottom along the exterior of the Stadium, creating a colour spectrum encircling the building. The space between each banner – over 300 around the structure’s entirety – is a doorway into the Stadium, an invitation to step inside.
Although I am an artist the work was very much a design solution and it was necessary to work closely with the architectural team to achieve the project.
Inevitably with such a large event there was a quite a bit of politics and compromise on the project, and it was also a challenge to work with and incorporate the brand colours.
Ultimately, however, it was very exciting to be part of this project from such an early stage and to see the structure unfold.
